Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 Let it not be! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Rom 6:3 Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;
Rom 6:6 knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:7 For he who died has been justified from sin.
Rom 6:8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
Rom 6:9 knowing that when Christ was raised from the dead, He dies no more; death no longer has dominion over Him.
Rom 6:10 For in that He died, He died to sin once; but in that He lives, He lives to God.
Rom 6:11 Likewise count yourselves also to be truly dead to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
Rom 6:13 Do not yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God, as one alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace.
Rom 6:15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under grace? Let it not be!
Rom 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to him whom you obey; whether it is of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness.
As a Christian I have come realize one thing so clearly in my walk with Christ. “I Am A Dead Man!” Each and every day as I read the Word, each and every day as I pray to the Lord, I realize my need to die to sin to die to worldly lusts, to die to self. The question is, how do I die to these things?
Everyday I have choices to make. When temptation comes, and sin lurks around the corner, I have to decide what I’m going to do. Am I going to give into the temptation, or am I going to resist, so the Devil will flee from me. The choice is not an easy one, for my flesh is weak and cries out to just give into the lustful desires. The flesh wants to take the easy road, make the easy choice.
So how do I overcome the flesh? Obedience! Obedience kills self will. Each time I am obedient to the Word of God, more of my self will dies with Christ. The more I am obedient to Christ the easier it is to be obedient the next time. Instead of being slaves to sin, we must become slaves to obedience. Obedience to the Word produces righteousness in our lives. That righteousness is what Jesus is looking for in the “church” He is returning for. Ephesians 5:26-27 says it this way, “ that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself as the glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such things, but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Obedience produces righteousness, and righteousness produces death, death to self. Only a dead man is empty of self, and therefore can be filled by the Holy Spirit for more acts of righteousness. Matthew 16:24 says, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow after Him. The only way to fully deny ourselves, is if we become dead men. As a result of my righteousness through obedience to God’s Word, “I Am A Dead Man!”
